Okay, so in the modern age of the internet, blogs and I-everything I know that stopping off at the news stand or even subscribing to a magazine seems as outdated as a cassette tape. For those of you too young to remember tapes, they were what we used to listen to music on before the CD, which is what we used before the I-Pod. With many magazines going under altogether and many more are moving strictly online I fall under the dinosaur category preferring to do my reading in print rather than digitally.
I know there are so many advantages to simply jumping online and having the entire world at the click of a button, especially with the introduction of devises like the I-phone and the Blackberry. However I love coming home to find my monthly copy of Spin or Rolling Stone waiting for me in the mail box. Between those magazines, my Netflix, and if I’m lucky my roommates Victoria Secret catalog, I know there’ll be something other than just bills which is always nice.
So, all of this to say, I know most of you probably don’t have magazine subscriptions anymore, but if you get a chance I highly recommend you check out the December issue of Spin. This is by far their best issue of the year! Now normally I’m slightly more excited by my monthly visit from Rolling Stone, bit this month Spin is really good.
Even despite the fact they rip on Radio Head, the article debunking rock’s 33 greatest myths is incredible. It touches on everything from Biggie and Pac to Nirvana, Lady Gaga, Insane Clown Posse, Kiss and many, many more. There’s also a very interesting look at the music of Tegan and Sara identical twin sisters (one of whom looks like a young Carrie Fisher).
So please set down the laptop and pocket whatever portable communications device you happen to have on you and check out this moths Spin and please feel free to hit me up and let me know what you think.
Oh, and please do enjoy.
